Hello and welcome to our tutorial on how to make scrunchies for hair using a sewing machine!

My name is Mariana and I love making my own scrunchies. Not only are they a fun and easy DIY project, they're also a great way to add a pop of color and personality to your hairstyles. Plus, making your own scrunchies is a sustainable alternative to buying new ones, as you can use fabric scraps or old clothing to create them.

So let's get started! Here's what you'll need:
  • Fabric of your choice (1/4 yard should be enough to make several scrunchies)
  • Elastic band (1/4 inch wide)
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Pins
  • Safety pin (optional)
Step 1: Cut your fabric into strips. For a standard scrunchie, you'll want to cut your fabric into strips that are about 2.5 inches wide and at least 18 inches long. You can adjust the width and length depending on your preference and the thickness of your hair.

Step 2: Hem the edges of the fabric strips. To prevent fraying, you'll want to hem the edges of the fabric strips. To do this, fold each edge of the fabric strip over by about 1/4 inch and press with an iron. Then, fold the fabric over again so that the raw edge is hidden and pin in place. Sew along the folded edge to create a hem.

Step 3: Sew the fabric strips into a circle. Place the fabric strip right sides together, making sure the hemmed edges are aligned. Pin the fabric in place and sew along the raw edge using a straight stitch. Remove the pins and turn the fabric right side out.

Step 4: Attach the elastic band. Cut a piece of elastic that is about 6 inches long and thread it through the fabric circle. To make this step easier, you can attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic and use it to guide the elastic through the fabric circle. Once the elastic is in place, overlap the ends of the elastic by about 1/2 inch and sew them together using a zigzag stitch.

Step 5: Finish the scrunchie. Once the elastic is attached, pull the fabric circle over the elastic to cover it completely. Pin the fabric in place and sew along the top edge of the fabric circle using a straight stitch. Remove the pins and your scrunchie is complete!

That's all there is to it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to make scrunchies for hair using a sewing machine. With a little bit of fabric and a few simple steps, you can create your own unique and stylish scrunchies. Thanks for watching!
